One of the BEAST projects in the Outer Hebrides, ‘Hebrides Energy’, was featured at the Convention of the Highlands and Islands when this met in Stornoway on 7th March, 2016.  Cllr Angus Campbell, Leader of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, gave a presentation to attendees on Fuel Poverty in the islands, and some of the actions being undertaken to address this issue, which includes the creation of a local energy company and the roll out of external wall insulation to island homes.

 The Convention of the Highlands and Islands was attended by around 50 representatives of Scottish local authorities, public bodies and economic agencies. Representatives of the Scottish Government included Energy Minister Fergus Ewing and Deputy First Minister John Swinney. 

 John Swinney, Depute First Minister of the Scottish Parliament, commended the Comhairle for their progress with a Local Energy Economy and highlighted the BEAST supported local energy company as an exemplar for all other Local Authorities in Scotland.
