As part of the Action and due tasks and deliverables   BEAST projects partners have compiled  and shared the good practices from their territories and beyond. Hereby the good practice from Cyprus Energy Agency.

The Cyprus Energy Agency, developed an on-line tool called LOCAL ENERGY BALANCES (http://www.cea.org.cy/app/CEA_energy.html) for the calculation of local (Municipalities and Communities) Energy Balances in Cyprus. The use of this tool has been very useful not only for the creation of baseline emission inventories of the Municipalities, but also in monitoring the impact of the implementation of local Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAPs) measures.

The Cyprus Energy Agency was appointed as the coordinator of Covenant of Mayors (CoM) activities for Cyprus by the Union of Cyprus Municipalities and the Union of Cyprus Communities. Since 2008 until now, 25 Cyprus local authorities signed the CoM.

A baseline review is the starting point for the SEAP process from which it is possible to move to relevant objective-setting, elaboration of adequate Action Plan and monitoring. The baseline review needs to be based on existing data. The Baseline Emission Inventory quantifies the amount of CO2 emitted due to energy consumption in the territory of the Local Authorities. Cyprus CoM signatories and the Cyprus Energy Agency were built a successful cooperation with the only one Electricity Utility Company in Cyprus in order to have access to the local electricity consumptions/productions for the BEI’s.
